Frequently Asked Questions

An Agricultural Resource Management Plan or "ARMP" for short, is a collaborative effort that incorporates policy, science, and stakeholder perspectives to create a 10-year plan to preserve, protect, and foster the Navajo Nation's natural resources

The purpose of the ARMP is to provide a 10-year plan outlining how the Navajo Nation Departments of Agriculture and Fish and Wildlife will manage agricultural resources, including grazing. The plan is a legal document that protects. The final plan will be adopted by both the Navajo Nation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs and will guide future management decisions.

The ARMP will include a discussion of historic Diné agricultural practices, the current state of agriculture and grazing in the Navajo Nation, and recommendations for improving the future management of these resources.

This Plan has 4 main priorities:

  1. Sustainable Land and Water Use
  2. Economic Growth and Food Sovereignty
  3. Preservation of Traditional Practices
  4. Climate Resilience and Environmental Protection

This project is expected to take three years to complete, with the final Plan expected to be approved by Council in early 2028.
